Do I have a learning disability?
After intensive thinking, I have been worried about my own self that I might have a learning disability in reading comprehension. I have taken the SAT about 6 times and still score 300s in Critical Reading but get 700s in the Math section. So I’m here today to see what you guys think.
I have a 4.06 GPA in high school and believe it or not I got accepted to UC Irvine with a 380 Critical Reading score and 450 Writing score. Whenever my teachers assign reading homework, I read the textbook. I even take notes and I can’t even grasp the information. I like reading and stuff but every time I read 1 or 2 lines, my minds gets off everywhere! So then I have to re-read those lines, jot them down on a piece of paper. Since I can’t comprehend that well, I just memorize the notes I took. For a 1 page (front and back) notes, it takes me 1 hour to process the information. It also happens when I read the easiest novel out there. If my AP Govt teacher only assigns 10 pages to read, it would take me 3 hours to read and take notes. I think there is something wrong with me. The text is not even dense either.
Like seriously, most of my friends finish their reading in like one hour and it takes me 3 hours. I don’t know. Is it possible that I have a learning disability in reading comprehension?
As for math, I am doing extremely well. I have an A+ in my Calculus BC class. I can even handle grammar very well too because it seems very mathematical to me if I parse it. Great with numbers but not great at reading comprehension…
